I’m delighted that Kim Jackson, Vice President, Products, Strategy and Governance at Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) will be presenting at this year’s HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas – one of the largest gatherings of Health IT professions, clinicians, executives and vendors from around the world. Her topic is Breaking Down Barriers with Master Data Management and data governance.

For those that know Kim or have heard her speak before, I am certain you already have her session highlighted on your calendar for the week. For those that have not had the pleasure of seeing Kim present, hers is a must-attend session for anyone interested in getting a positive ROI from your data management efforts. Kim will be sharing PSJH’s Master Data Management journey, offering insights into the hard-dollar ROI and customer service improvements that result from improving the quality of provider data. What makes the PSJH story so compelling is that they actually put in the effort to measure results and quantify benefits with a meaningful level-of-detail.

Kim is one of those unique individuals that can talk big-vision strategy one minute, and drive program and project-level success the next. I’m pretty sure that anyone with a six-sigma black belt certification is an intense process thinker, and Kim is that in spades. It’s this discipline to drive a good idea from strategy through execution – and then to measure the results – that makes Kim’s MDM and data governance story so engaging. Kim is also an “enterprise thinker,” and looks beyond just the project to the overall impact on the organization, front-line staff, and the implications on recruiting, training and the ultimate sustainability of an initiative.

The future of healthcare is one of constant change and disruption. In my earlier blog post about the HIMSS conference, I drew the distinction between intelligent disruption (i.e., “good”), which is planned and managed, and “bad” disruption which is what happens when you’re disrupted and are unprepared. Kim is an intelligent disruptor and her MDM and data governance story is a great example of this. I hope to see everyone at Kim’s presentation since I’m certain you will find it informative, enjoyable and thought-provoking.

Kim presents her session, “Breaking Down Barriers with Master Data Management and Data Governance,” at 1 p.m. March 8 in the Venetian, Palazzo G.
